My use of social media

I use social media pretty much daily. Some days it consumes more time than an hour and some days it consumes only few seconds of my time. In my private life I use mainly Facebook, YouTube and Pinterest. I also have a profile on Instagram, but I rarely update it these days. Same goes unfortunately to Twitter. First I was really excited about microblogging, but soon it came more of a work related thing.

In Facebook I read news and update my profile ones in a while. I don’t use my private Facebook profile for work. I think it’s important to have one channel for the less serious updates. Facebook is also useful for chatting and I rarely send text messages anymore. I also use WhatsApp for the same purpose.

YouTube is perfect for watching cat videos after a long school day. There are also plenty of useful tutorials and interesting vloggers. Another relaxing way to spend rest of the day is pinning inspirational pictures in Pinterest. I got totally hooked into it as I was planning my wedding last summer. Even now I collect all types of fashion and decoration related pictures.

Social media in working life and studying

Updating social media will be a part of my future work. I need to know how to use different platforms most effectively and where can I find the people I’m trying to reach. So social media is naturally an important part of my studies as well.

Facebook is the most important service I use when it comes to studying. There I can create events, groups and pages. I can participate in conversations, update necessary data and find information. Facebook is really flexible platform, so it’s easy to share pictures, videos, news and links. I use LinkedIn for sharing information about myself and for finding job opportunities.

YouTube is also an easy way to share private video messages via link. That way I don’t need to share my homework with the whole world or try to smash it through email. I also study a lot in YouTube. The amount of free Adobe tutorials is huge.

During spring I updated my University’s Twitter channel regularly. It was part of my studies and thanks to that I learned a lot about microblogging. Another new social network I tried because of school was Periscope. I don’t have my own profile, but I have done a few broadcasts for the University and for the Turku City Theater.

Anyhow Social Media speeds up daily communication and makes my life so much easier every day, whether I'm talking about school life or private life.

  1. Twitter was something I was also really excited about at the beginning and I checked everyones tweets daily. Nowadays not so much. I was as an exchange student in United States and there my friends and family used Twitter all the time. Now we use Facebook's Messenger and Snapchat to talk. I don't think it has been a hit here in Finland and I've been thinking many times that why it's not so popular here?

  2. I like watching videos on Youtube, especially documentaries, food shows and comedies. I agree with you that they are funny and relaxing. In addition, the process of watching also provides us knowledge in certain fields. It is nice to read how you use social media in your daily life.

  3. Sometimes I spend my time in Youtube. Usually I listen to music or watch interesting documentaries or other videos. I have never had an account in Youtube because I have never felt I need it. I never upload anything and I never feel I should comment videos.

  4. Youtube is one of my favorite websites. There are many tutorials videos online in some fields. I used to search one video which taught me how to do PowerPoint slide and it was very helpful.

  5. YouTube could be the next social media THING because vlogging has become more popular. I use for many purposes but vlogosphere is rather strange to me even though I've had a blog for years.
